Welcome to an immersive workshop where you'll dive into the exciting process of creating a breathtaking water simulation shot featuring a majestic sea creature breaching and diving in and out of the ocean. This comprehensive course, led by CG Supervisor Miguel Perez Senent, will take you through each step to master this epic creation.
We'll begin by defining a vast ocean surface and exploring Houdini's latest water toolset to simulate the creature's interaction with the water. Using the cutting-edge FLIP Solver, you'll craft the base fluid simulation and learn valuable tips to enhance its realism and efficiency. Moreover, you'll discover clever techniques to generate and seamlessly blend the fluid's mesh with the ocean, as well as how to create a custom whitewater emission source based on the mesh's properties and physical characteristics.
The creation of realistic whitewater presents significant challenges, especially on a grand scale. Through multiple lessons, you'll explore various techniques to achieve lifelike motion, ranging from simulating an airfield to modifying the dynamics of millions of particles, based on real-life observations to mimic different water densities.
In the final stages, you'll master look-dev and rendering using Karma within the Solaris USD context, ensuring a seamless integration of every water component. By breaking down the necessary passes, you'll effortlessly compose the final shot using Nuke.
Throughout the workshop, we'll emphasize keeping your scene efficient, enabling you to create this extraordinary shot using just a single computer.
